Launching Your First Website

From platform choice to launch day: installing WordPress, essential settings, the pre-launch checklist, and submitting to search engines.

Whether you are launching a brochure site, a blog, or a small store, the steps are the same. This guide walks through the typical first launch.

1. Pick a platform

  • WordPress — the safe default for most non-technical users. Massive theme and plugin ecosystem.
  • Static site generator (Hugo, Astro, Next.js) — faster, more secure, but needs technical comfort.
  • Pre-built script (Joomla, PrestaShop, Drupal) — installable in one click via Softaculous in cPanel.

2. Install

Most users pick WordPress:

  1. Sign in to cPanel.
  2. Open Softaculous Apps Installer → WordPress → Install Now.
  3. Choose your domain, set an admin username and password, and pick a strong site title.
  4. Click Install. Done in under a minute.

3. Theme and content

  • Pick a theme that matches your style — start from a well-supported free theme like Astra or Kadence.
  • Replace the placeholder pages (Home, About, Contact, Services).
  • Replace placeholder text — every word counts for SEO.
  • Add your logo, favicon, and a few hero images.

4. Essential settings

  • Permalinks: set to Post name for clean URLs.
  • Time zone and date format in Settings → General.
  • SEO basics: install Yoast or RankMath, fill in the homepage title and meta description.
  • Analytics: add Google Analytics or a privacy-friendly alternative (Plausible, Fathom).

5. Pre-launch checklist

  • Site loads on https:// with a valid padlock.
  • All links work (no broken links — use a checker plugin or deadlinkchecker.com).
  • Forms submit and arrive in your inbox.
  • Mobile version looks correct (use Chrome DevTools to simulate).
  • You have a backup.

6. Launch

Tell the search engines you exist:

  1. Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console.
  2. Submit it to Bing Webmaster Tools.
  3. Share the site on your social channels and email your existing customers.
