Upgrades, Downgrades, and Cancellations

How pro-rated upgrades work, when downgrades take effect, and how to cancel a service at end-of-period or immediately.

Your hosting needs change. Here is how to switch plans, scale resources up or down, or cancel a service when you no longer need it.

Upgrade a hosting plan

  1. Sign in at manage.maxinames.com.
  2. Open My Services and click the service you want to upgrade.
  3. Choose Upgrade/Downgrade and pick the new plan.
  4. We pro-rate the cost — you only pay the difference for the remainder of the current billing period.
  5. Submit. Most upgrades complete within minutes; larger upgrades (shared → VPS) may take an hour while we provision the new resources.

Downgrade a hosting plan

Downgrades follow the same flow but apply at the next renewal date — you keep your current plan's resources until then. Make sure your data fits within the smaller plan's limits before downgrading; if you exceed disk or bandwidth limits, we will email a warning and ask you to delete data or upgrade again.

Cancel a service

  1. Open My Services and click the service.
  2. Choose Request Cancellation.
  3. Pick End of billing period (you keep using the service until renewal) or Immediate.
  4. Add a reason (optional but appreciated) and submit.

For immediate cancellations, we delete the data after a 14-day safety window in case you change your mind. Always download a backup first.

Domain renewals after service cancellation

Cancelling a hosting plan does not cancel domain registrations on the same account — domains continue to renew separately. To stop a domain from renewing, turn off auto-renew on it, or transfer it to another registrar.

Refunds

If you cancel within the refund window of your plan, you are eligible for a refund — see our refund policy article for details.
