Acceptable Use Policy Summary
What you may not host or transmit, network rules, resource use on shared hosting, and how to report abuse.
Our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) sets out what you may and may not do with Maxinames services. The full policy is at maxinames.com/acceptable-use; this article summarises it.
What you may not host or transmit
- Illegal content — anything that violates the law in your jurisdiction or in ours, including child sexual abuse material, terrorism content, drug sales, etc.
- Copyright or trademark infringement — pirated software, films, music; counterfeit goods.
- Phishing, fraud, or scams — sites impersonating banks, fake invoices, fake support pages.
- Malware distribution — viruses, trojans, exploit kits, command-and-control infrastructure.
- Spam and bulk unsolicited email — including outbound from a hosted application.
What you may not do with the network
- Port scanning, attacking other systems, attempting unauthorised access.
- Open SMTP relays, open proxies, or anonymisation infrastructure for abuse.
- DDoS attacks, traffic amplification, or other forms of network abuse.
- Cryptocurrency mining on shared hosting (allowed on dedicated VPS within reason).
Resource use on shared hosting
- Long-running processes that exceed your plan's CPU/RAM limits may be throttled.
- Storing files that are not part of a website (off-site backups, file dumps) is not permitted on shared plans.
- Sending more than the plan's mail-per-hour limit can cause your IP to be flagged — use a dedicated provider for bulk email.
What happens if you breach the AUP
- Notification. For most issues we contact you first and ask you to fix the problem within a reasonable window.
- Suspension. If the issue is not resolved, or if it is serious, we may suspend the affected service.
- Termination. Repeated or severe violations result in account termination without refund.
- Reporting. Illegal content is reported to the relevant authorities.
Reporting abuse
To report content or activity that violates the AUP, email abuse@maxinames.com with the URL, a description, and any supporting evidence. We respond to abuse reports within one business day.
