Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Five-minute setup with any authenticator app. Recovery codes, lost-phone procedure, and where else to enable 2FA across your accounts.
Two-factor authentication adds a second check on top of your password — a one-time code from your phone — so a stolen password alone is not enough to access your account. Five-minute setup, big security win. We strongly recommend it for every Maxinames account.
Before you start
Install an authenticator app on your phone if you do not already have one:
- 1Password or Bitwarden — combined password manager + TOTP.
- Authy — free, with cloud backup.
- Google Authenticator — free, simple, no backup.
Enable 2FA on your client area
- Sign in at manage.maxinames.com.
- Click your name (top right) → Security Settings.
- Find Two-Factor Authentication and click Click here to Enable.
- Pick Time-Based Tokens.
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app.
- Type the 6-digit code from the app to confirm.
- Save the recovery code shown on screen. Store it in your password manager — it is your only way back in if you lose your phone.
Sign in with 2FA
From now on, after entering your password you will be prompted for a 6-digit code. Open your authenticator app, find the Maxinames entry, and type the current code. Codes change every 30 seconds — if one is rejected, wait for the next one.
Lost your phone
Use the recovery code you saved at setup to sign in, then disable and re-enrol 2FA on your new device.
If you do not have the recovery code, contact support. We will verify your identity through the registered email and other account details, then disable 2FA so you can re-enrol.
Other places to enable 2FA
- cPanel — Preferences → Two-Factor Authentication.
- Your email account at the registered address.
- Your domain registrar (if not Maxinames).
Each of these is an entry point to your hosting; protect them all.
